A Zodiac is an ancient method of dividing the sky into sections in order to track the cosmic movements of the stars, planets, and constellations with respect to the viewer over time. It is used by astronomers to mark sidereal and planetary cycle; by astrologers to reveal information about world events, the characters of individual beings, and predict the future, and by conjure doctors and magicians as an aid to effective spell casting.

Animals on Parade
The word "zodiac" literally means "animal parade" and for the most part, the symbols assigned to the various sectors of the sky are named after the resemblance of the constellations within those sectors to well-known animals of the Middle East and Old Europe.
As the Sun, Moon, and planets move through the sky, they enter and exit the 12 signs of the Zodiac. The date of their entrance is called their ingress and the date they move out is called their egress. While the planets, Sun, and Moon are in the various signs of the zodiac, they take on the characteristics of each sign.
Planets are said to consider specific signs as their domiciles or homes, wherein they rule, and some signs as variously inhospitable, beneficial, or detrimental to them. Thus, for example, The Moon rules the zodiac sign of Cancer, but when Saturn is in Cancer, it is said to be in exile from its own domicile in Capricorn. Meanwhile, Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, becoming both charitable and compassionate, while Mars is fallen when in Cancer, its fiery energy drowned in the ocean.
On the pages for each individual sign of the zodiac you will find all this information and more, including how the zodiac affects people by their Sun-signs.
