The Crown Chakra or Sahasrara is located at the top, or crown, of the head. As the seventh and final vital Chakra along the central energetic channel, it connects the Third Eye and the universal consciousness beyond. The Sanskrit word for Sahasrara means "thousand-petaled," and this chakra governs transcendence, enlightenment, and universal consciousness which can lead to Samādhi, or non-dualistic understanding. The association of the Crown as the supreme center for attaining spiritual enlightenment and liberation is significant in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions, in which spiritual awakening unfolds as the remembrance of one’s divine origin and connection to the whole of creation. The Crown Chakra functions as a center for transcendence of the self and non-dual awareness. In Vedic Astrology the Sun can be seen as a link to the Crown Chakra in that it represents a form of cosmic energy.

In modern times, the concept of the Chakra system has been embraced by New Age and holistic medical and spiritual traditions. In these teachings, balancing of the seven nodes of Chakra energy is considered essential for matters of emotional healing, physical well-being, financial stability, personal empowerment, and spiritual peace. Meditation, physical touch, body awareness, and the wearing of talismans may be included in the work of Chakra balancing.

The Crown Chakra encompasses the upper region of the head. Effective healing practices include silent meditation, mindfulness, and devotion-based rituals. The mudra for the Crown Chakra is called Sahasrara Mudra. To make this hand gesture, bring the tips of the index fingers and thumbs to touch, forming a triangle. Interlace the other fingers, with the left thumb tucked under the right. While holding this mantra, the awareness is placed at the top of the head and uses the seed sound of this Chakra, which is traditionally Silence, but the seed sound of 'OM' could be used.

Practices based on the concept of consciousness and unity with all existence can be recommended to strengthen or balance the Crown Chakra. This includes meditations that dissolves the senses of self and practices of gratitude to awaken transcendent awareness. To connect with the aspect of the Crown Chakra, one may engage with plants by appreciating their flowers, leaves, or berries or, if medically appropriate, drinking an herbal tea made from these plants. You may also include the use of stones or crystals for enhancing spiritual connection and purifying consciousness, such as Clear Quartz, Amethyst, and Sugilite, which can be placed before you, held in the hands for contemplation, worn as talismanic jewelry, or applied to the specified area of the body by a practitioner, while the client lays prone on the floor or a massage table. Healing methods such as Reiki have also been said to help with matters of the Crown Chakra. Because the Crown Chakra is seen as supernal, there is scant agreement upon which aspects of the material universe have a direct link to it. Numerous contradictions occur in lists of correspondences to the Crown Chakra, and quite a few teachers have stated that no mundane symbolism can or should be made to the Sahasrara Chakra at all.
